Prince William County was named for the second son of King George II of England. It was established in1731 and was originally 2,000 square miles. By 1759, the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Fauquier and Loudoun had been carved from it. That left an area of 348 square miles. Manassas City adds 8.1 square miles and Manassas Park has 1.7 square miles.
Manassas is very history rich. Monahoc and Doeg Indians first inhibited the land. They were displaced by settlers in the 17th Century. In 1850 with the construction of railroads Manassas became a major link near Washington that was vital during the Civil War. The first Battle of Bull Run was fought in 1861, and a year later was the Second Battle of Manassas. Manassas National Battlefield is a 5,000-acre park. There are lots of points of interest as you tour the park.
Prince William County, Manassas City & Manassas Park have become a hub for high tech businesses and education. Some of the large employers include Atlantic Research, Dominion Semiconductor, AOL, Lockheed Martin and Dominion Virginia Power.
Education is a high priority. There are private schools, public schools, colleges and universities. Stonewall Jackson High School was named Time magazine High School of the Year. New Dominion School has won the National Service Learning Award.
The real estate market is great here. Your choices include condos, town homes and single families. There are communities with golf courses, large acre-plus lots, older historic homes and new communities sprouting up every day. We enjoy the Potomac River on the east and the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west. There are plenty of shopping centers with Potomac Mills being one of the largest on the eastern coast.
